Item Details

An antique late 19th century terracotta plaque by 19th century Danish artist Peter Ipsen (1815-1860). The dramatic scene illustrates soldiers following a chariot while an angel and male figure lead its path.

At over 150 years old, this decorative plaque is finished in distressed paint, giving it a desirable time worn look. The original handcrafted details have stood the test of time, the subject still eye-catching and distinctive on the rich terracotta background. It is a superb Grand Tour piece Danish history that would take pride of place in any home.

Stamped P. Ipsen, Kjobenhavn, Eneret, 445. Ipsen was an artist of the 19th century renowned for making Neoclassical works of art made from terracotta, such as this one.
