Item Details

A handsome pair of antique 16th century English oak wall panels, carved during the reign of Henry VIII with an enriched parchemin design.

More than 500 years old, these panels are originals of the period offering a glimpse into 16th century England; a time when war worked alongside peace and the country’s wealth was growing through trade, industry and exploration.

These finely carved panels with their deep rich patina and classic Tudor design would have taken pride of place in the homes of the middle and upper class, which were often large and grand with lots of ample rooms and gardens, handsome art and architectural carvings.

Fashionable architectural pieces of the 16th century, panels like these would’ve originally been used alongside several plain and carved panels to clad interior walls, providing stylish decoration as well as reducing draughts. Doors, cabinets and furniture were also decorated with similar panels.

Affixed with hanging hooks to the reverse, this pair of antique carved oak panels are ready for mounting on an interior wall, perfect for placement together or either side of a mantelpiece or doorway as 16th century interest.
