Item Details

A highly decorative pair of antique console tables. Ornately decorated with stylised dragons, crowns, foliage and swags, these tables blend modern components with classical styling, making them a handsome focal point in interiors traditional and modern alike. Each are designed around an artistic cast iron panel attributed to mid 19th century architectural and iron founders Walter Macfarlane & Co. This particular railing appears in the ‘Illustrated Catalogue of Macfarlane’s Castings Vol.1’ under design No. 154.

Designed to be wall mounted, each streamline table sits on an artistic wrought iron frame with a simulated light surface rust finish below a white Carrara Marble top. Together, these tables are a beautiful feature for an interior. The narrow depth makes these antique marble top hall tables ideal for a passageway or entrance hall. Equally, they make stunning furniture pieces in any room thanks to their highly ornate design.

Specialising in the production of a range of cast iron works, Macfarlane’s was one of the most important manufacturers of ornamental ironwork in Scotland. Also known as the Saracen Foundry, the business was founded in Glasgow, opening its first premises in 1850. Image source: 'Illustrated Catalogue of Macfarlane’s Castings. Sixth Edition. Volume 1’.
