Item Details

A pair of stunning tall, narrow Victorian wrought iron side gates detailed with fine, handcrafted scrollwork. Though they date from the late 19th century, these beautiful antique gates will look elegant in gardens and courtyards period and contemporary alike thanks to their timeless beauty.

Wrought Iron Garden Gates

Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.

CONDITION REPORT

Good structural condition. Some small losses. Old flaky paint and surface rust finish. Some slight differences in design between the two sides but they are original to each other. There is a cover strip where the gates meet at the centre. No latch but unusual bolt arrangement at bottom.
