Item Details

A rare J M Blashfield antique buff terracotta urn dating to circa 1860. This 19th century urn is of a quatrefoil shape and impressive scale. Its smooth buff colour and characteristic weathering compliments its unusual shape. This Victorian style planter would look stunning as the centrepiece in any garden. It features gadrooned detail on its base and socle, with a striking floral like shaped urn above.

J M Blashfield

John Marriott Blashfield manufactured terracotta architectural and garden items between 1840 – 1875, which were sold throughout England and internationally. His works are noted for their fine detailing and pale terracotta colour.

This renowned maker started production at Millwall, London and then in 1858 he moved to Stamford in Lincolnshire.

CONDITION REPORT

Good structural condition. Lightly weathered. Traces of old paint. The urn and pedestal are associated. Substantial rusty pin holding the socle to the body of urn. There has been a historic repair to the socle. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses, scuffs, and scratches.
