Item Details

A reclaimed Victorian style garden gate, traditionally handcrafted in wrought iron by a talented 20th century blacksmith. Reputedly made by The Somerset Smithy, Frome, which was active between 1922-1982.

This reclaimed gate is an ideal size for a garden or side passage, the intricate scrollwork making a beautiful feature of gardens traditional and modern alike.

We are also selling a smaller gate in the same style.

Wrought Iron Garden Gates

Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
