Portrait of a bay in a rural landscape, signed and dated by the artist John Goode, 1844, and within a fine, original gilt gesso frame baring an exhibition label lower left.
The image: 29.5 in x 22.5 in overall: 39 in x 32 in
John Goode was an Oxfordshire artist hailing from Adderbury. A provincial painter of horses and dogs, he also painted 'Anthony' a Shorthorn bull which was published in the Coates Series herd book of Shorthorns. His painting of 'The Old Berkshire Hounds' was engraved in mezzotint by P.Thomas, circa 1852.
