Item Description

This is the iconic, space age-y, 'Torpedo' light designed by Carlo Nason for arguably the finest mid century European lighting designers, Mazzega.

Dating c. 1970.

Brushed steel with 6 separate opaline glass shades that are held in place by tiny brushed steel grub screws. Its exceptionally well designed and lovely quality. Small marks of ageing as to be expected with brushed steel and one of the glasses has a tiny amount of damage to the rim which doesn't affect its function, nor is visible as it is within the steel structure.

Carlo Nason was born in 1935 into a family of glassmakers in Murano, Italy. As a child he learnt the art of glassblowing and the first pieces he designed appeared in 1959. He was passionate about design, but in the 60s distanced himself from his family's business to focus on creating lighting that reflected his modernist and often futuristic approach.

Collaborating with Mazzega, he worked with them until the 1980s, producing iconic lighting that remains highly sought after.
