Item Description
FW Papke was an important company in renown Viennese leatherwork, gallantry and art bookbinding during the monarchy . The company was known for the quality of its products. It was located on Mozartplatz (Mozartgasse 4) in Vienna's 4th district of Wieden .The company was founded in 1841 by Karl Papke, a native of Greifswald. His successor as head of the company was his son F. W Papke. Papke produced innumerable works for the personal use of the emperor, which received the appreciative praise of this distinguished client. Papke was also Archduke Eugen's chamber supplier.
Papke was awarded a prize at the world exhibition in Vienna in 1873. He received a diploma of recognition for services to the arts and crafts, the silver medal at the exhibition in Paris in 1894 and at the exhibition in Antwerp in 1894.
