Item Description
Pair of 19th century beautifully carved Renaissance Revival side chairs.
Each chair, or backstool, is carved with female figures on either side of a central mask. The crest bears a carved shell.
The seat has a carved foliate border.
The base features two carved dolphins with entwined tails
Known as sgabello, derived from scabellum (Latin for ‘stool’), they traditionally lined the walls of palaces or large country houses
