Item Description

Example of Victorian English fairground carving by master carver Charles Spooner of Burton-on-Trent is this spandrel-shaped showfront board with a carved Dragon's head and other fragments of Spooner's carving which came from a late 19th century fairground show.

The board is a remnant from a collection of fairground scenery bought in 1997 at the closure of the Wookey Hole Fairground Collection in Somerset, England.

Measures 70" long x 25" high. In reasonable condition with the original gilding on a restored & repainted backing board

Made in Burton-on-Trent, England by the company of George Orton Sons & Spooner. Circa 1880-1900
