Small Framed Oil Painting of a Dancer- Signed by Hungarian Artist Maurice Karvaly 'Ask Art' says as follows Maurice (Mor) Karvaly was a Jewish artist born in Hungary.
Karvaly received art training first in Vienna, then Munich and later in Paris where he apparently settled for a time.
A skilled painter, Karvaly is probably best known today through the often humorous genre paintings which were later converted to popular postcards.
A fine graphic artist and skilled painter, Karvaly’s body of work is varied in both medium and subject matter.
The charming small painting which I bought in France at a market in a Paris suburb, is of a young girl (a dancer ?) dressed in a 'Pierrot' or 'Columbine' costume.
It measures 16 x 13 inches (40 x 33 cms) and is In excellent condition.
