Item Description
A pair of fascinating 18th century carved stone figures; probably Prometheus and possibly his wife Pronoea, sometimes named Asia. Prometheus is sometimes referred to as the God of Fire as he stole fire from the Olympian gods to give to humanity in the form of technology, knowledge and civilisation. As a punishment Zeus condemned him to eternal torment and he was tethered to a rock while an eagle was sent to eat his liver (in ancient Greece, the liver was thought to be the seat of human emotions)
