Item Description
Talk about out of the ordinary.
This scarce novelty Franz Bergman cold painted frog bottle top is the epitome of out of the ordinary.
Late 19th Century, the frog is climbing a rope and it's head is breaking out via the bottle top, the legs climbing the rope can be seen under the bottle top, also underneath you can see the makers mark.
Displayed in a Perspex box with an original vintage magnifying glass (some scratches appropriate to its age) so we can just make sure close up that we are actually seeing what we are seeing!
The frog on its own is around 6cm but the full item from base to top of Perspex box is 15.5 cm high and (base) 20 cm wide.
Stamped with the mark of Franz Xavier Bergmann (1861-1936) a letter B in an urn.
The cold painted bronze refers to pieces cast in Vienna, decorated with many layers of "dust paint", not fired (so cold painted) and was carried out by women at home.
