Item Description
A set of 6 framed Herbarium/pressed flowers from England c.1845.
Framed in black and gold faux bamboo frames with UltraVue UV70 anti-reflective glass.
Each picture’s full size, including frame, is 48cm x 30cm.
Names of the specimens are written in ink in English and Latin and on occasion the place picked, for example in this set by the Bow it says “Picked from the walls of Goodrich Castle January 13th 1845”.
Page numbers can just be seen on some in the top right corner in red ink.
From the information we have received these are possibly from the Gloucestershire/Cotswolds area.
This is a splendid example of mid-19th Century (Victorian) pressed botanical specimens from the height of the herbarium/science enthusiasm.
