British Antique Oil Painting Equine Portrait Of "The Mint" Thoroughbred Race Horse In Stable By Timothy B Whitby Circa 1912.
Subject Equine horse study portrait of a male chestnut brown thoroughbred race horse who's name was "The Mint", facing left standing proud in full side profile inside his brick walled stable and you can see the lush chestnut coat colour of this amazing horse, his drinking trough can be seen to the right, also some piece of straw can be seen on the floor.
Title "The Mint".
Oil on canvas.
Set in such a traditional gilt frame.
Circa early 20th century dated August 1912.
This painting is signed in the bottom corner T.B Whitby.
Timothy B Whitby is a British animal and equine artist with artist biography verso.
In our opinion this the finest example of his works.
Timothy B Whitby British Impressionist & Modern artist who was born in the late Victorian era towards the end of the 19th century. His works have sold at numerous auctions around the world, one of his works sold at Christies at the end of the 20th century which was a dark brown hunter with white terrier in landscape. The horse was a British thoroughbred racehorse and sire.
With hanging thread on the back ready for immediate home display.
Condition report offered in fine used condition. Having surface dirt & foxing stains also craquelure to the painting surface, also some minor paint loss towards the outer edges, also having had some paint touch up repairs to the horse face area and stable background as shown with 2 small patches on the back of the canvas. The frame having general wear, dust, scuffs, stains and some chips losses commensurate with usage & old age.
