Artist biography Ernest Higgins Rigg a British known artist born in 1868 in Bradford, Yorkshire, where he studied he also at Académie Julian, in Paris. His paintings have sold at numerous auctions around the world, the current highest sold price is $6,810 US dollars. His pleasant open-air scenes were in the manner of French late-nineteenth century paintings. He exhibited at the RA, RBA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and also elsewhere. He worked in various parts of England. He was also a member of the Staithes Group and was included in Phillips & Sons’ Marlow show of group work in 1983. Lived for a time in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. He died in 1947.
The Staithes group or Staithes School was an art colony of 19th century painters based in the North Yorkshire village of Staithes. Inspired by French Impressionists such as Money, Cezanne and Renoir, the group of about 25 artists worked together in plein air, in oil or watercolour. The group contained renowned artists such as Laura Knight who kept a studio in the village with her husband and fellow painter Harold Knight. Frederick W Jackson, Edward E Anderson , Joseph R Bagshaw, Thomas Barrett and James W Booth.

Having noticeable craquelure, foxing, also some paint loss in places to the painting surface and fading in areas. The frame has had repairs to the corners and some overpainting with some chips, cracking commensurate with usage & age.
