Item Description
A dramatic statue or fountain of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. Mid 20th Century.
Created in France in composite stone, including a low bevelled composite stone plinth.
Neptune is theatrically elegant, capturing the Classical mythical allure of its subject. The statue depicts Neptune in a commanding pose, with finely detailed features, including his flowing beard and windswept hair. Neptune grasps a dolphin, probably ‘Delphinus’ the dolphin King - whose tail and fins wrap around his legs surrounded by kelp fronds, evocative of the god’s dominion over the seas.
The fountain is both a work of art and fully functional, with a discreetly integrated water spout that allows water to flow gracefully from the fishes mouth at Neptune’s feet.
With a wonderful natural patina and weathering of the stone. He is perfectly suited to a contemporary or classical space.
This unique piece, ideal for collectors of classical statuary or those looking to create a captivating focal point within a pool or lake.
With historical repairs and wear consummate with age.
Plinth depth and width 49cm.
Width: 54 cm (21.26″)
Height: 144 cm (56.69″)
Depth: 59 cm (23.23″)
