Huge oversized Mediterranean terracotta storage jar. Early to Mid 20th Century.
The jar has a sculptural ovid formed organic shape. In addition, superb surface patination, with layers of distressed traces of original paint from many years of overpainting.
With lovely hand pressed coin patterned details in the terracotta and banded ridges the top opening having a rolled rim. The jar has a lower spout, now plugged closed, but which could be reopened for drainage for a possible use as a water feature.
The perfect striking planter for your Mediterranean terrace or inside your orangery for palms or lemon trees. The piece would work equally well as sculptural vessel for your interior scheme.
