Item Description
A fantastic sophisticated pair of Anduze Vases from Anduze, Occitane in the South of France created by La Poterie de la Madeline in the late 20th Century.
Originally created to hold citrus trees within Royal gardens and public spaces in France. These emblematic bulbous shaped vases are handmade from terracotta and glazed in liquid drips of brown and green.
This matching pair are embellished with the potteries makers mark signifying their origin, and adorned by decorative iconic floral swags of the region.
The surface of the glaze is now delicately time-worn revealing the terracotta underneath.
Anduze vases trace their origins back to the early 17th Century, the first vase being attributed to the potter named Boisset around 1610.
The traditional use of terracotta gives them an earthy and rustic appearance, decorative and functional and ideal for use within your interior or as functional garden planters.
