Item Description
Charming little Arts & Crafts style wall mounted smoker's cabinet in oak by Liberty & Co. of London c.1903. Overhanging top with a groove along the back edge to form a plate stand. Over a single door with beautiful stained design of a gentleman smoking a long stemmed pipe with a tobacco jar on the table in front of him, the smoke curving into distinctive Art Nouveau forms. Fitted inside with two shelves (internal depth 6"), plus pipe racks to both sides and a small shelf below. Shaped detail to the bottom edge. Original Liberty & Co. badge to the rear. Repairs to the top, otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
The 'Calumet' smoker's cabinet appeared in Liberty's 1903 'Yude-Tide Gifts' catalogue, as illustrated on page 216 of Liberty's Furniture 1875-1915 The Birth of Modern Interior Design by Daryl Bennet.
