Item Description
Impressive late 19th.c. Renaissance Revival carved oak box settle c.1890. Slightly sloped backrest with a moulded top rail over three panels carved with 16th.c. style decoration of male faces surrounded by scrolling foliage, set within moulded rails and mullions. Solid ends shaped to form armrests and carved as lions with brass rings in their mouths. Note also the faces carved at the top of each armrest. Board seat with scratch carved decoration and a carved and moulded edge, lifting on hinges to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Front panels below the seat carved to match the backrest with garlands of fruit and foliage to the pilasters at each side over large paw feet. Panelled sides and rear. Very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
