Item Description
Charming little early 20th.c. primitive or vernacular stick armchair in oak c.1910. Flared backrest with a slightly curved top rail on simple spindles cut with a drawer knife rather than turned on a lathe. Flat top arms with traces of the original stained finish. Note how the supporting spindles for the arms are set at an angle for comfort and how the side spindles for the backrest pass through the back of the arms which are held in place with tiny wooden pegs. 1¼" thick single oak board for the seat (height 16½") raised on oak legs, slightly splayed for stability, joined to the seat with wedged tenons. A good sturdy chair, excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
