18th Century French stumpwork embroidered mirror/picture frame
An interesting 18th century stumpwork mirror/picture frame beautifully decorated using silk and silver threads on satin. There are rope scrolls on the outer edge of the gilt bronze frame with each corner depicting a fleur-de -lis.
All in original condition allowing the silver to become almost black in colour. This beautiful frame shows intricate designs and patterns skillfully sewn by hand, a true testament to the phenomenal ability of the person who was committed to such a time consuming project, now a capsule of the past.
There are flowers, foliage, scrolls and sequins with some losses and very small areas of wear to the silk.
