Item Description
The good quality large arched overmantle mirror at approximately five feet wide by four feet high, having the original heavy mercury glass plate surrounded by a mahogany veneered ripple moulded frame of super colour, the lower edge with extended shaped mouldings, surviving from the early to mid-Victorian period in completely unmolested condition.
The original mirror plate has wonderful clouding and attractive foxing to certain areas which makes it still eminently useable but also very decorative. The frame could benefit from having backboards re-applied, though not essential, and there are mounting brackets for direct wall mounting.
Overmantle mirrors are a fantastic way of showing a mantelpiece off, due to their lower edge being more slight, though can make any wall or fireplace the central feature in any room. In this example the lower edge has elongated shaped mouldings which would essentially helped the mirror blend into the mantelpiece whilst providing some additional support.
A super mirror that would fit ever so well in a roomy Victorian room or in a bar or public house setting.
