Item Description
The large and wonderfully decorative overmantle mirror, at over five feet high, having the original heavy mercury glass plate surrounded by an acanthus giltwood and gesso frame to a gadrooned border terminating in a naturalistic scrolled shell cresting, the whole surviving from 3rd republic France.
The original mirror plate has attractive foxing, though mainly remains clear and as such can be used as intended. The original pine back panels are all present and hangs via a large chain. There are a handful of losses to the acanthus mouldings as photographed.
Overmantle mirrors are a fantastic way of showing a mantelpiece off, due to their lower edge being more slight, though can make any wall or fireplace the central feature in any room.
A statement mirror that would instantly change any room lucky enough to bear it.
