Item Description

The large patinated brass and multi-panelled glass hanging Moravian star pendant light, with flex and ceiling rose included, the whole surviving from the third quarter of twentieth century France.

The light fitting is in very good and original condition. There is one crack to an upper panel as photographed, the whole with a good aged verdegris patination to the brass. There is a working hatch that opens for one to change the bulb, of which we supply one large filament example with the sale. The glass would benefit from a clean to the interior.

A Moravian star pendant light is also known as a Herrnhut star or Advent star. This type of light fixture is characterised by its geometric shape, typically featuring multiple points or rays emanating from a central core. Moravian stars are often made of metal and glass, and they are popular as decorative lighting elements, especially during the Christmas season. The mid-century modern style, which emerged after World War II and lasted until the 1970s, is known for its clean lines, organic shapes, and functionality.

A particularly large example that would look stunning amongst a vaulted ceiling.
