Item Description

The attractive folding campaign chair in mahogany, the whole with superb scrolled open arms, with crimson silk upholstery, the chairs arms folding flat via brass catches, to turned front legs to rear sabres and ceramic castors and surviving from the Regency to William IV period.

The chair is in useable condition. The upholstery is very tired but very attractive and there is a later chipboard insert under the seat.

Campaign-style furniture goes by many names, such as “military furniture” and “traveling furniture.” But its most curious name is “patent furniture.” It gets this name because many pieces fold up or transform into another form, and the designs were many times patented. The most famous example of patent furniture is the chair that converts to library steps.

Very much your faded country house type of armchair with added military appeal.
