Item Description
Kashan is one of the most prestigious centres for Persian rug weaving, beginning in the 16th Century under the Safavid Dynasty. The workshops of the region became renowned for producing some of the most sought-after rugs of the Classical period, maintaining their craftsmanship well into the early 20th Century.
This captivating example from the 1930s draws inspiration from 17th-century designs, featuring a scrolling vine and floral motif in beautifully aged vegetable-dyed hues, with sky-blue tones set against a neutral grey field. Another attractice feature is the harmonious balance and scale of its design, particularly the uniformity in style and palette between the wide, elegant border and the central field, unqiue amongst other carpets of its region and period.
This early 20th-century Kashan rug remains in very good practical condition for everyday use, with a tasteful age-related patina.
With timeless charm and subtle elegance, this carpet will be a wonderful addition to a any interior, classic or contemporary.
