Item Description
Circa 1770. An unusual stylish walnut trunk on stand. The rectangular trunk with quarter matching walnut, bordered with herringbone inlay and a broad-banding. The caddy shaped fore-edge with burr walnut panel to the front, the top is hinged and opens to reveal interior with one removable tray, and the entire carcass is made in oak. To the sides with elegant cast brass and gilded lifting handles, and veneered similar to the top, with an oval brass escutcheon with original working lock, with quarter matched burr walnut, with herringbone banding. The trunk sits on a simple base with the moulded fore edge, shaped frieze and resting on four tall walnut legs.
