Item Description
Circa 1900, exhibition quality pair of walnut silvered and yew wood serving tables. In the manner of William Kent, with their yew wood cross banded top, yew wood oysters and quarter matching veneers. The elaborate apron to the front has a large full relief carved face of a goddess within a carved cartouche, and to the ends there are further foliate carving and large silvered scallop shelves, also carved in full relief. The table stands on substantial cabriole legs with massive silvered lion heads to the top with a pull ring in its mouth, and there is a silver faceted timber wrapping around the bottom of the leg and beneath this a realistic hairy paw foot. The top section overlaps the back allowing the tables to go flush against the wall and avoid hitting the skirting board.
