Item Description
An excellent example of Regency carved gilt wood convex mirror by Thomas Fentham, with acanthus, foliate and scrolled pediment surmounted with eagle holding balls and chains in his beak, above a large round framed with an arrangement of balls and ebonised slip centred with the original lightly foxed convex mercury plate. With further acanthus carved below. Circa 1810. In good original condition including the water gilding and plate. Still bearing the manufacturers labels to the reverse.
Thomas Fentham is recoded as a carver, gilder, glass grinder from 1774-1825. A number of labelled examples of his mirrors survive and as such the name Fentham remains synonymous with the finest convex mirrors and had some notable commissions.
