Oil on canvas by the well known Suffolk artist, Clive Madgwick.
"Successful Shoot" portrays the hunter with his dogs by a lake.
Signed and dated 1977. Framed in an attractive gilded original frame. Dimensions: Framed 68 x 57 cm. Canvas 61 x 50 cm
An extremely atmospheric and beautifully painted composition which brings the man and his dogs into the foreground looking over a less clearly defined lake with white ducks on the water.
Clive Sheridon Alexander Madgwick was born at Marylebone, London in1934, son of Dr John Reginald Alexander Madgwick , M.D., and his wife Adele Hope, also a medical practitioner,
After attending Downs End School and Epsom College, Clive studied dental medicine at Guy's Hospital. He painted as an amateur for many years before turning professional in 1972, progressing from landscapes to genre, figure, and sporting scenes in the Suffolk landscape.
He was elected a member of the United Society of Artists in 1976 and was also a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists. Clive won several prizes including the Royale Landscape Prize both in 1978 and 1991 and in 1987 a Higgs & Hill Bursary and the Daler-Rowney Award. His sensitive paintings were published as fine art prints with such success that Clive Madgwick became one of the world's best-selling artists and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Society of British Artists
