Item Description

Hand crafted Jacques Duval-Brasseur fish lamp, dating to the 1970's, the exceptional brutalist brass and blue agate piece is a fine example of Brasseur's work. The lamp is an E14 (small screw) bulb fitting.

Duval-Brasseur is a world renowned French designer and sculptor. His works are inspired by nature and he combines different mediums, such as stone, iron and bronze, bringing to life figurative and abstract sculptures.

Duval-Brasseur along with his contemporaries, Henri Fernandez and Isabelle & Richard Faure pioneered this style of brass work in the 1970's and 80's, creating some of the most exceptional lighting, furniture and sculptures in what is a notoriously difficult material to work with.

The works are always free flowing, with all the detailing and decoration coming from the superb use of molten brass, more rarely nickel, and natural semi-precious stone. Genuine works by these artists never use colours or enamels, relying entirely on the contrasting metals and semi-precious stones, the raised welds are used to accentuate the sculpture, these welds are never uniform and are always done by hand.

This piece was sourced from one of the World's largest private collections of Henri Fernandez, Duval-Brasseur and Isabelle Faure sculpture, the collector was a personal friend of Fernandez who frequently visited his home, and was also a friend of Jacques Duval-Brasseur and Richard and Isabelle Faure.
