Item Description
An Interesting Late 16th/Early 17th Century Spanish Walnut Side/Serving Table.
This rare and unusual table has four handsomely drawn and turned legs which incorporate a variety of baluster forms. The legs are joined by a thick and sturdy H form stretcher which in turn stands on four flattened bun feet. The top of the table is of one piece and pegged to the frieze as would be expected on such an early piece of furniture. The frieze has three drawers with wrought iron escutcheon plates and brass handles. The drawer fronts and frieze, including to the sides and back of the piece, are ornamented with fine chip carved details with a border of simple carving surrounding geometric patterns. The carved frieze on the back means that the table could be used as a centre table if required.
A wonderful piece of history! This table has survived hundreds of years and retains a fabulous colour and patination. A rare find!
