Item Description
An Unusual Arts and Crafts Period Octagonal Pollard Oak Centre Table, In the Manner of Philip Webb for Morris and Co.
Made c.1885-1895, this table is veneered throughout in oak, with bookmatched veneer being used for the octagonal top and the incurving octagonal platform stretcher. The tapering legs are simple square sectioned, and terminate in the original brass castors. The edge of the top has a fine carved edge moulding and the piece has an excellent colour and surface.
The table is highly reminiscent of the work of the architect and designer Philip Webb and the furniture designs he produced for Morris and Co.
A substantial table, must be seen to be really appreciated!
