Item Description
A Pair of 19th Century English Regency Mahogany Hall Chairs.
These stylish chairs are firmly attributed to the Gillows of Lancaster workshops. They have protruding tops shaped like Pelta shields, a popular design motif in the late 18th and early 19th century decorative arts, and waisted backs, these chairs are very decorative and make an instant impression. Another unusual feature are the octagonal-sectioned front legs. The seats have a fluted edge and there is carved detail on the backs. The timber used throughout is of very high quality and is dense and heavy.
The crests on these chairs appear to possibly be one of the branches of the Day family of Scotland and Ireland.
Excellent quality. The unusual crests also add to their decorative appeal.
