Item Description
Adam period carved and painted pine chimney piece, the decoration is all carved in wood, similar chimney pieces often use moulded jesso for the decoration, as such this is a particularly fine example. It is of very generous proportions to accommodate a fireplace on a grand scale. When installed the use of a slate or stone slip on the inside of the timber surround can be used to make the aperture fit the chimney piece. The stepped mouldings beneath the mantel shelf to a gadroon carved frieze. The central tablet with garlanded classical display. To the ends, roundels of carved acanthus over jambs with gadrooning. The panels are carved with vases over a garland of bell flowers and honeysuckle. Two plinth bases.
