Item Description
Four Pugin gothic revival portcullis chairs by Gillows
Walnut framed chairs with square section frames with stop chamfered back supports and legs, the front legs with castors and the backs with inset hand pulls to pull the chair back from the table. These chairs were designed by A.W.N. Pugin for the House of Commons and later also used in the House of Lords and other public buildings. Gillow & Co were commissioned to make furniture for the House of Commons. These chairs based on a pattern chair made by Crace c. 1850 to an A. W. N. Pugin design are each double stamped 'Gillow' to the front and back rails. The chairs retain their origin horsehair upholstery which requires tightening and recovering, which we can arrange for you.
