Item Description
An imposing late 18th century Dutch oak linen press of wonderful natural faded oak colour, circa 1790. Of substantial proportions, constructed throughout with oak pegs, topped by a beautifully hand-carved dentil-moulded segmental pediment, carved with a flower vase and scrolls, above a pair of panelled doors with patera-carved spandrels set within ebonised columns, headed with brass capitals. Opening to reveal two central longer drawers above three shorter drawers with brass ring handles. The lower section having three longer drawers within leaf-carved bracketed pilasters retaining their original handles, keys and escutcheons, set on square tapering feet. A finely constructed linen press, with its light, naturally faded oak colour and ample storage which would have been originally designed to store clothing for an affluent eighteenth-century family. This piece would make a beautiful and useful statement piece in both a contemporary or traditional home.
