Item Description
A large teak metal-bound dowry chest from the North Indian area of Rajasthan. Pressed tin detail. Four wooden wheels. Lots of original detail and a well-worn patina. A decorative piece with lots of storage potential. Interior features an additional 'secret' cubby hole.
Dating from the mid-19th century, these chests would be given by a bride's family to a prospective husband, usually containing all types of fabrics and silks, silver, and other monetary goods, to accompany their daughter!
