Item Description

Pair Elizabeth II Modernist sterling silver & silver gilt limited edition wine coasters, London 1986 by Christopher Nigel Lawrence.

The coasters are of circular form with contrasting naturalistic silver gilt 'bark' textured edge and inset turned teak bases. Full hallmarks to side, and stamped with the limited edition numbers to the underside rim 55/100 & 59/100 respectively. Green baize to the underside.

The silver shows general rubbing with use and a mark to note, as shown in photograph number 6. The mark is to the right of the hallmark.

About: Christopher Nigel Lawrence was Born in 1936, he was apprenticed at CJ Vander's. There he won the first of his three Jacques Cartier Awards for making a rose bowl designed by Alex Styles. In 1961 he moved to Gerald Benney's workshop as a craftsman, gaining a further two Cartier Awards.
He eventually became Benney's workshop manager, but left in 1968 to set up on his own.
