Item Description
A superb pair of burr oak and steel side tables made by designer and sculptor Philip Hearsey. Known as the 'pudding bowl' tables. Circa 1992-3.
The tables have burr oak drop-in bowl tops, standing on angled steel supports with burr oak domed bases.
Showing beautiful grain and texture to the wood, naturally misshaped, oozing charm. They have the original patina, showing some light marks with use. Oak facings have been added to the base to make level.
Philip Hearsey creates beautiful objects that ease into a space between pure form and purpose.
Phillip does not create furniture anymore. The wood used in his pieces would have been locally sourced native hardwood combined with iron, steel, bronze, glass, stone and resin. The work was crafted from reclaimed trees that had died or suffered the fury of the wind.
Provenance:
Commissioned for Sonu and Eva Shivdasani who lived in London, and later opened a resort in the Maldives - Soneva Fushi - in 1994. Many thanks to Phillip to the provenance.
