Item Description
A watercolour drawing of a three-fold screen design, depicting a nautical map of the Atlantic showing America and Europe, and centred with a three-masted ship 'Montezuma' - Kenneth Stevens MacIntire (American, 1891-1979).
The painting has the original gilt frame and the verso with signed authentication stamp issued by the estate. There is a small tear to the top right, and a small smudge to the middle bottom, which appears to be on the glass.
Kenneth Stevens MacIntire was a sculptor and painter. He reportedly did not sell any of his non-commissioned work during his lifetime. Born in Boston, MacIntire studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Architectural Club School of Design. During World War I, he was assigned to a unit which specialized in Dazzle Art, a camouflage system for ships. After the war, he opened a studio in Washington D.C. His work was featured on the cover of House Beautiful magazine. In the 1930s, he moved to California and painted celebrity portraits and famous horses.
