Item Description
Great looking monotype and watercolour by British artist Reginald James Lloyd (B. 1926).
Entitled ‘Square Harbour’, signed and dated 2011 on front and verso.
Picture measurements – Height 47m x Width 33cm. Frame measurements – Height 49cm x Width 35cm x Depth 2cm
Reginald James Lloyd was born in Hereford in 1926 and now lives in Devon. He began painting around 1950 and received early encouragement from the sculptor, Henry Moore, who was a good friend.
His work is included in the collections of the V&A Museum, National Maritime Museum and Tate Gallery in London as well as Oriel and Exeter Colleges Oxford, the British Embassy in Paris, Teignbridge Council and the Bruton Art Gallery, Bideford.
Later in life he became friendly with the poet, Ted Hughes, which resulted in him illustrating four of Hughes' books of poems, including the award winning What is the Truth? One of the other books of Hughes' poems illustrated by Lloyd was The Cat and the Cuckoo.
