Item Description

Lifesize plaster statue of 'Discobolus' the discus thrower by Myron. Stamped 'Louvre reproduction' on the plinth. Superbly rendered and retaining its patina.

Sculpted during the 2nd Century AD in Roman Italy, the statue is a copy of the Greek bronze original made around 500 BC. It was discovered in Hadrians villa at Tivoli. It is famous, among other things for having a head that faces the wrong way, Myrons original had it's head turned to face the discus.
