Item Description

Antique Anglo-Indian bucket storage container.

Originally used for measuring grain, usually rice and known locally as a ‘Padi’ or ‘Pari’. Could be used for any number of modern purposes and a highly decorative object in its own right.

Originating from Southern India, possibly Goa with an Anglo-Indian feel slightly reminiscent of English log buckets or Irish peat buckets of the period with unmistakably Indian details.

Made from a solid carved-out and turned piece of native hardwood (probably teak) with ribbed detail.

Decorative brass studs and strapwork with twin handles also in brass and decorative iron elements. There is also a brass crucifix applied to one side denoting it probably came from a Christian family.

Dating from the 19th Century.

It is in very good vintage condition, there is wear present and imperfections throughout commensurate with age and use which add to its charm and tell its story.

Measuring 31cm wide x 31cm deep x 28cm high.
