Item Description
Antique original oil on board lanscape painting by Charles Hallemeersch, Belgian (1889-1958)
An intriguing scene looking down a path through trees depicting two thatched huts in a lush tropical setting.
Painted in an impressionist manner with thick confident impasto brushstrokes to great effect.
Hallemeersch was a Belgian artist known for portraiture, landscapes and still-life paintings in oil, he was a student of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp as well as the Academy of Art, Arnhem and his work features in the Belgian state collection.
Inscribed verso with the signature of the artist as well as an inscription in their native language which is challenging to decipher exactly.
Within the inscription, there are two dates. One for August 1902 and another for October 32. We believe the latter is the date of the painting and it was painted in 1932 when the artist was 43.
Framed in its original gilt wooden frame.
The painting is in good vintage order with wear commensurate with age.
Approximate overall measurements 50cm x 40cm x 2cm.
