Item Description

Georges Pelletier for La Roue workshops in Vallauris, large vintage brutalist ceramic wall plaque, 1970`s ca, France.

This vintage wall plaque has been gently cleaned while preserving the aged patina. It is ready to hang.

This exceptional one off sculptural handmade ceramic wall piece is unsigned, but most likely is from Pelletier`s studio (the attributed designer & manufacturer) as evidenced by the decoration and very unique style & detailed craftsmanship. A true work of art and fine example of Mid Century French design.

With its sculptural presence it would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Traditional, Industrial or Contemporary.

Many of Pelletier design features are present on this piece, such as the intricate hand-painted & sculpted different tiles featuring bold geometric patterns, earthy tones and concentric motifs with the accents in gold.

The result of the composition is great movement an depth. The dominant earthy colours combined with greens & blues. Various textures and layers of geometric decorations on the background, at different levels under the glaze, create a very rich & complex piece. The gold accents illuminate the scene: perhaps a fantasy garden or the bottom of the sea.

This piece has a good weight. The tiles are mounted on the original vintage white fiberglass base, that has two holes on the back to hang to the wall.

This vintage wall plaque is in very good vintage condition. The vintage patina has been preserved. The composition is sound with no loses or missing parts. No cracks or chips on the ceramic, just minor superficial marks & rubbing to the glaze in tiny areas. The fiberglass is in good condition with some marks, a small flat chip on a back corner & slightly enlarged holes overtime, all in line with age & wear.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care with packing. For safe transport the plaque will be wrapped in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. It would then easily fit into a box with loose fill packing suitable for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).
