Item Description

Marriage, or wedding domes became traditional in France around the 1800's.

These 'Globes de Mariee' housed souvenirs from a couples' wedding day. They were also used to display personalised items chosen by the bride and groom to symbolise the story of their marriage. The number of mirrors for example indicates how many children the couple had hoped for.

This beautiful dome features gilt leaves and birds, as well as an upright satin pin cushion decorated with orange blossom flowers.

The dome is in its original, intact condition. The glass dome lid lifts off the base and it too is in excellent condition. The ebonised wooden base has signs of wear.
